Hoping someone here can help me. The sunroof in my 1987 turbo is inoperable. When I push the button I can hear the motor making noise. But the glass does not move. Does anyone know of any common issues that would cause the glass not to move when it sounds as though the motor is running? I hate to tear into this without some idea as to what im doing as the car is all original and the headliner is in perfect shape. Thanks in advance

There is a cable that is built into the housing / trackassembly that moves the glass moonroof. Your cable is likely broken at some point. It is really likely simpler to change out the entire track assembly than just trying to change the cable. I have some of the track assemblies and they were working when I removed them. Pricey to ship because of the size.

Update. I have been working on it this morning. The sunroof will go back and forth by using an allen wrench and manually opening and closing the glass. I have lubricated the track as best i can and the motor will operate the glass with a little help. Could it be that the motor is failing?
I think the cabling and all the mechanical parts are working.

Can anyone help me on how to remove and replace the motor assembly? I found a replacement but am not sure on how it hooks to the sunroof. Im hoping it does not require removing the headliner.

The headliner does not have to be removed. There are just 2 or 3 screws that hold it in place and the electrical connectors. Pretty simple really.
