Stumped...

Has anyone ever disabled the ride control on their 87/88 TC? what's involved? I would like to install KYB gas-adjust shocks on the rear in place of the ride control shocks (KYB KG5556).

Also, I tried to change the horizontal damper shock, installing a KYB piece there as well. Seems the shock (KYB KG4521 Gas-a-just) does not fit quite right between the front bracing. With the provided spacer, the shock mount is too wide, without it is too narrow. Any suggestions? Which way should I mount the shock? Piston-end forward like the old damper? That seems like it would pick up road grime in between the casings...

Any/all help is welcomed! Thx
88 TC, mostly stock. Future plans include: Eibach Front Lowering Kit; Gillis Valve; 2.5" Stainless Cat-Back Exhaust (done); T3 turbo; Ported/Polished head work; port-matching on all pieces; and the list could go on and on and on...

You really need to replace both the rear shocks and front struts if you are going to eliminate the PRC. To eliminate the PRC, just disconnect the wiring to the activators (one on top of each shock / strut), remove the activators, and move the wiring out of the way. Drop the pass side metal panel in the trunk. The PRC and ABS computers are on this panel, along with the 2 PRC relays. Disconnect the electrical connector from the PRC computer, and you are done. If the PRC computer and activators are still working, I suggest you save them, to sell to someone who needs them at a later date.

JEFF: I removed the activators and put different front struts on, but did not remove the rears or unhook the PRC computer. Is that a problem?

AC... A problem? well, yes and no... With the front activators removed, the PRC computer will spit out error codes, and you will have to look at the green FIRM LED flashing at you, which can get annoying. If I were you, I would drop the panel in the trunk and yank the plug off the PRC computer to keep the FIRM light from flashing. Should take less than 5 minutes to unplug it.

AHA! That damn light has been flashing for over a year! Even before I took off the front activators. We hooked up the scanner to it and it didn't put out any codes (although Fords computers aren't very informative). Now I know how to stop the light from flashing....THANK YOU!!!

You use the connector below the ash tray with a home made tool to put the PRC in the troubleshoot mode.

If the PRC light was flashing, count the flashes. That is your trouble code right there.

Code 3 is Fault in RH front actuator circuit.

Start checking connections to the actuator on top of the RH strut and so forth.

Could be a bad actuator. Could be the circuit. Or it could be the computer (rare).

Also, you may have additional codes waiting for you after you solve this code.
