Hi Forum,

Would anyone know what the HP/torque difference would be by adding an HO Cam and E7 heads to a 1984 5.0L?

I just got the engine in and don't know the gain.  Factory was 140HP.  Any ideas?

Thanks

Do you have an aftermarket PCM such as PIMP, Megasquirt, etc? If not, dont bother with the HO cam as it will not play nice with the stock Speed Density PCM. The E7 heads flow somewhat better than the stock E6 heads and will work fairly well with the stock SD PCM and add a few (maybe 10 or so) HP.

Hi Jeff, the motor is in the car and it seems to be running fine except for a short in the EGR connection (they say).  We're putting in a new ECU today to be sure we have a good "known" ECU. Waiting for the results.  So, do I need to get an aftermarket PCM?  Shit...  sinking feeling in stomach.....

Another option is to find a mass air ecu and add the mass air sensor.

Thank you Raven88.  Looks like they found a bad Vacuum Valve Solenoid.  We found an OEM one at a dealership believe it or not and will try that too.  What year Mass Air ECU and Mass Air Sensor do I need and do I need the harness? (if it comes to that)

I did a mass air conversion on a fox mustang 5-6 years ago. There was some wires to switch around at the ECU plug and the kit I got supplied the ECU, sensor wiring etc. I don't remember where I got it. I replaced it a couple years ago with a Pro-M efi and just love it. It comes with a new engine harness, replacing all the 35 year old wiring and gives you total control of your tune. You might want to look them over.

Thanks a bunch Chas!  We'll know in a day or so when the part comes in.  My guy was complaining about the harness being old and brittle.  Might have to do that if things go south even more with the wiring. (pricy though). I just looked. Anyway, we'll see.

Yes it's pricy but the quality is awesome and you get excellent support (there's a lot to learn though). It constantly makes adjustments as you drive based on the current AFR. PiMPx will do that IF you have a laptop on it in tuning mode but not all the time. Pro-M is constantly making adjustments to be on target.
And, no, this is not a paid endorsement, just my personal experience.

So, we found a broken/cracked vacuum solenoid. A ford dealer had one on Ebay. What's another $100 part anyway? The saying is "for love of money". In my case I'm changing it to: for love (of our cars) and AND Money (all the $$ we put into them!).

We'll see how it goes.   Thanks for the info!
