Stereo wiring concerns

I had an aftermarket stereo deck installed on a 1988 V6 T-bird and before getting rid of it, I took out that deck and put back the stock radio.
I have the deck and harness for it and want to put it in my 87 Turbo Coupe.
The question here is will it be a plug-in-play install [after disabling Premium Sound], or are there other speakers that need to be wired into the harness.
Another way of asking is, are there additional speakers with the Premium Sound as compared with the regular system from my V6?

Sorry if it seems confusing, thanks!

The door speakers are just wired in parallel with the dash speakers, so there are still just 4 pairs of speaker wires, just like on your V6 bird.

Plug and play???? probably...

On a semi related note....

My current 88 Tc does not have premium sound, and has no door speakers. Does anyone know if the wiring is still in the doors even if the speakers were not installed?

Its cold out, and I've not had to rip these doors appart yet. All of my other cars have had the door speakers as stock.

Yup, it's in the doors and hooked up to the front speakers. It should be bundled a few inches behind the speaker cutout.

88 - If you are using a wiring kit such as those from Metra, it can be Plug and Play (Pray), Make sure you get the one for the Premium sound system though, it is different from the regular one.

Martin -Since the Premium were wired in parallel as Jeff says, It is unlikely that the wires are in the door, but I'm not 100% sure. If not though, it is a simple matter to run them, just go through the gromet on the kick panals and through the flex tubing to the door.. Make sure though that if you are using 4 0hm speakers, that you then wire them in series instead of parallel so as not to strain the amp in the head unit. That is assuming you also have them in the rear and are trying to run 6 speakers.

How would I know if it's the one for the Premium Sound? My harness is still attached to the aftermarket deck and package is long lost. I figure the difference would be wires connected and wires not, but I wouldn't be sure.

I'm yet to see a '87-'88 TC that did not have the wiring in the doors, premium sound or not.

Wow, I'm having to go back number of years here so bear with me, I believe that there was an extra plug attached for the premium kit. It mainly has do do with the extra set of speakers and the premium amp that is already in the car. its been about 12 years since I was in the Car Audio business, but I have always been a big fan of just replacing the factory wire anyway. When you pull the Radio, you should be able to tell right away as the regular plug will no match up with the premium, I believe. I guess this is a bit of a senility test here for me.

Thanks, thats what I needed to hear. I'm gathering parts to swap doors, and ordered some speakers.

Its not a big deal to add the wires while changing doors, but my hearings not good enough to know the difference between stock and "good" wiring.

I have an 88 TC that did not have premium sound. The speaker wiring IS in the door for the door speakers.

88 TC, mostly stock. Future plans include: Eibach Front Lowering Kit; Gillis Valve; 2.5" Stainless Cat-Back Exhaust (done); T3 turbo; Ported/Polished head work; port-matching on all pieces; and the list could go on and on and on...
