I am looking to see how many have used the stereo install kits that are available for new head units. the kits with the new trim pieces, not the wiring. They only cost like $12, but if I don't have to get one, it's one less thing to get. Thanks

I have put lots of head units in lots of cars over the years, and all of the head units came with enough small trim pieces that go around the head units that buying more kits was not needed.

This is a picture of the double DIN head unit I installed last May.

There was a thread in which I discussed replacing the stock unit and speakers, as the cones are paper and after 30+ years, likely worn out. I had initially decided on a single DIN one, but realizing that without the graphic equalizer I was going to have extra space, so I made some modifications to the support structure behind the IP console and was able to get this one in without a lot of problems. Bonuses: backup camera (how did I ever do without one?), GPS and live-update maps system, and OF COURSE I could also watch DVDs, but **Not While Driving**  Wink (I’ll just text instead  Wink Wink Like so many others do **JUST KIDDING).

There were some serious mods required for the rest of the center IP console, so it didn’t look so much like a high-school shop project. I used anti-theft screws to help deter anyone with any ideas.  Angry The grey paint is by Rust-Oleum, it’s called “Hammered”, and is designed to provide a textured, slightly uneven finish.

It’s a BOSS Audio unit that was on sale at Fry’s Electronics for 1/3 off, so it was kind of an easy decision.

The Green switch is for the hard-wired Radar Detector; the Red one is for full-time rear camera, not just in reverse.
Another proud dues-paying member.

1987 Turbo Coupe w/T5OD, 8.8 axle, grey smoke; most options. Got it in 1991 with 41K miles: 3 turbos, 2 heater cores, 3 T5OD full rebuilds, 6 clutches, 1 head gasket, 2 Teves II ABS units, etc. later....
