Well if you have no key then you have to drill carefully. There is a pin that holds the ignition cyl in place that will break the column if you try and pry it out. You wiull have to get a drill and some good drill bits and start drilling the tumbler/cyl out till you can push the pin in to release the cyl.

well the end of the new tumbler looks as though it also needs to be properly alligned in order to get the lockset out of the hole....i have allready drilled out the pin and it appears to be free and clear from the wall of the tumbler but still not budging

IIRC, it installs in the Run Position. I replaced mine with a set from Checker Auto. When I took my old one out, it literally fell apart in my hands. The little tumbler pins....Tumbled out. There should be a small pin when you get it in the run position that you need to push in to release the entire little assy from the collmn. Is that the pis you drilled out? If you can get it in the run position, then it should just slide out.

Well since you have no key, apparently it needs to be in the run position to get out, and you have another tumbler get yourself something in there and persuade it to turn.

Another thing, though I don't recall exactly if I had to do anything to the tumber to replace the switch (I don't think so), is to take all the column trim off and get at the ignition switch where you can fool with the rod and maybe make something work (?). The switch carries it's own set of theft protection and a dremel to cut slots for a screwdriver in the head of the security screws works wonders.

Oh, and all caps is construed as yelling around here. Wink

I just used a big a$$ed screwdriver and a big a$$ed crescent wrench in where the key goes. Turned it right over and broke it off inside, but it turned to the run position. I then pushed on the pin and the thing popped right out, after I RTXed the anti-theft screws for a straight slot screwdriver.

Just remember when you put the new set in there that there is a little wire in the set that keeps it in the 'RUN' position. That wire has to be removed before it is installed into the column. Once it is in there screw it down then turn the key to the 'OFF' position and pull your key out, then replace all of the plastic that you pulled off. Easy as pie.

If you don't have a Dremel or RTX, then you can use a hacksaw blade, but it will take you a little bit to get a good enough groove in the bolt head for the screwdriver.

Since it has been drilled out, would any Ford key work to put it in run position? Just a thought.
