when it comes to the belt tensioners and such accessories, i'd like to find setups from other cars that are almost a direct bolt on.. so if something breaks, it's just a quick trip to the parts store and on my merry way again.. The only downfall i would think about there being enough trial and error knowledge to make it as close to bolt on ordeal would be the fact that the volvo intake would interfere with the master cylinder, whether you still have the teves or jumped ship to vacuum assist non-abs.. The block mod method would be cheaper and less time consuming in the long run, but i'd rather leave the block untouched, just in case.. It'd be awesome if someone started making headers and intakes to make life easier, along with anything else to make it more feasible for guys who don't have the tools or spare time to do it.. I imagine a lot of us can't do it because we just simply can't disable our cars for the necessary amount of time required to put it together

pulling my motor today and going to start bracing my subframe, so i can start cutting the fender aprons off.. Picked up some of the dom tubing i'll need to at least get started, just need a length of 1-1/4 for the gussets.. Got the harness out earlier, so i'm just trying to get as much done as possible before i can pick the head up

pulled the k-member.. Rust was a LOT worse and more widespread than i thought.. Gonna have to start boxing the subframe before i cut the aprons in any way.. My driver side frame rail is a 1/4in lower than the passenger side, so i have to put the jack under it when i start plug welding the new steel in.. This should be a fun task.. Lol

Rust sucks! I've been fortunate that both of mine are pretty rust-free, structurally at least. Neither of them have any of that strut tower rust or frame rust. Just some minor superficial spots (well - the '87 has some bad spots on the body panels, but still structurally sound). Don't you love it when things turn out to be much more work than you anticipated?

40bob is *supposedly* back at work making headers and he *supposedly* makes volvo headers. I still don't know if I would trust the order to be completed, though, given the fact that he fell off the face of the earth for like a year...

I'm not aware of anyone making intake manifolds. I'll be interested to see what you come up with for the intake mani.

is it sad that building the intake to use the 2.3 upper is what i'm looking most forward to? LOL you bought brian's old stock daily driver, didn't you? I had to laugh when he called it a rust bucket. My car used to look like it went for a daily swim in the atlantic compared to that car.. 8 patch panels later and the body panels are finally rust free.. I envy you guys with more solid cars, but i did this to myself by saving the car from the crusher lol

Yeah I bought Brian's car. It had some kind of rust-preventative coating applied early in it's life and it has really done a great job! The only real rust is on the bottom of the rear quarters. I give props to anyone who'll save a car from the crusher, though. I would never have the time or money to bring a car back like you are.

All of the Folvo builds I've seen have these complicated (to me) log-style intakes. That's why I'm interested in your idea to use the factory upper. Only thing I'm wondering is whether or not it's going to be rotated forward on the new setup. Judging from the photos above, it looks like it'll be facing forward. I'm ASSuming you're sticking with the factory distributor since AFAIK MS1 doesn't have much in the way of ignition control. :dunno: Are you going to build the intake around it?

My car had (some) of the same stuff sprayed haphazardly all over under the hood, but it looks like it rusted from the inside out.. so far, the rust repair has cost me $0, until I bought the material for the front end, only because I hoard sheet metal lol

I'm not fond of the log style intakes, only because they remind me of ebay intakes for hondas and the runners are very indirect.. in the name of performance, I feel like keeping the 2.3's intake style will flow more unrestricted, especially since my upper is already gutted.. it'll definitely be rotated forward, which is why I built the low/passenger side alt brackets. The lower will snake it's way to clear the distributor. I'll just have to wait for the head in order to start assembling it.. I just hope my bender can bend aluminum, otherwise I have to make a trip or 2 to an exhaust shop. Ive got a basic idea in mind, just need to see if it'll work out in my tabor. Keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't give me too many problems

My ballpark idea of where the upper should sit

Pre-turbo oil cooler.. probably unnecessary overkill, but I want to see if it helps bring the hotside temps down
