like a fool i tried taking out my check engine light from my 88 thunderbird and now my tachometer and speedometer just wont work. i checked all the fuses under the dash but they all look fine. i just have no idea what i could have done wrong or even what went bad. oh and i double and triple checked all the connections and they all seem fine.

Sounds to me the main plug-in on the back of the cluster is not all the way in. I would double check it and make sure both of the plug-in latches are latched.

P.S. Welcome to the forum!!

88 tbird tc 2.3l manual. i got 10 days to get this car thru state inspection. right now it my only car. the CE is on and off due to kids messin with the vacume lines and i think i got it right but i need a EGR vacume solenoid. i needed the light out for inspection. now there is a buzzer staying on while key is on and the tach and speedometer just wont work.

if its a NJ registered car the check engine light can be on at anytime. it doesn't matter for inspection as long as you pass the two-speed idle test.
where are you located in NJ?
i work in glassboro and I'm a NJ state MVC inspector and NJERT (emissions repair technician).

gives more details on the car. if you close i can even drive up to you and help you out. i know these cars i can work on 'em with my eyes closed

Did you move the connections at the solenoid on the back of the passenger side strut towers.

Have you pulled the codes from the EEC. If the CEL is coming on, then a code was set.

I have the same problem with my 88 also still have not figured it out. The buzzing is your overboost. Good luck if I find out I'll let you know.
