Okay I have a question.... Winter is just around the corner and My wife and I are going to be re-doing are TC. My question is who has the fast TC out there and what do you have done to it. We would like to get are car into the 10's. Don't laugh we know it can be done but we are not sure how it can done. All advise is welcome. we would like to keep it powered by a Ford 2.3L.
thanks guys.

I don't think you're fully aware of just how fast a 10 second car is. To get a 3500lb car into the 10's, you'll probably at least 800hp, which is simply absurd for a 2.3L engine, especially if you'd like to keep it even mildly streetable. Just aim for a mid 14 second TC and save the 10-second ambitions for a real race car.

gillis valve set at 18lbs, k&n cone on VAM, removed A/C belt, unbolted exhaust at track,
best 1/4 mile: 15.10 @ 89.25mph

UPDATE: car blew the turbo on 8/17/01, so it'll be off the road until next summer when i can fix it.

Steve is right. I've heard of highly modified turbo Mustangs running in the 9-10s but they are probably 500 to 800 pounds lighter. You would be looking at $7000, most likely more just in an engine. You would also need to beef up the suspension and frame. You also need to check NHRA roll cage requirements

As far as I know it is Brian Bitters and his 88. He has run the mph for a low 11 second pass but hasn't gotten the times down there yet. He doesn't even have it running right yet. To have a shot at the 10's you will need some serious money. In my opinion you would need the following.
An NHRA rule book. It doesn't make any sense to have to go back and redo things.
Esslinger aluminum head, around $3500 with valvetrain
Esslinger or Race engineering 2.85liter crank and all that is neccessary to install that ($1500 just for the crank from Esslinger)
A very strong bottom end ie: crower rods studs and straps with Wiseco pistons
Some of Esslingers intakes that flow better.
A DFI like speedpro(&2800), Electromotive($2100), or SDS ($1000+)
An entire new fuel system , fuel cell, pump, regulator, big injectors(83lb/hr+) and braided line for new fuel system
a 100-175 shot of NOS
4.10 gears with an 8.8 that can gandle that much power.
C-4 or Tremec and a MSD with 2 step so you can leave with boost if using manual trans
a NHRA approved roll cage
Lose a lot of weight off the car
tubular K-member
completely redo the suspension. it will have to hook hard.
and finally be ready to not drive the car on the street. It won't be too streetable anymore. This is probably just the start of what you would need to do also. If I had the money I'd go for it.
