Speed sensor question.....

What is the part that goes between the speed sensor and the tranny? @ 1.5 inches long spindle lookin thing with a 'wheel' on it? spins inside the speed sensor? ford cant find it.

AFAIK, you can not buy the VSS rotor seperately, you must buy the whole VSS. The rotor should not come out of the VSS body anyway. Is the "wheel" a colored plastic gear that is secured to the shaftwith a metal clip? That plastic wheel is the speedo / VSS driven gear. It mates to a gear on the output shaft of the tranny.

Ford still makes / stocks it because it isnt a TC specific part.... same VSS used on lots of Ford cars / trucks. Same reason they still make / keep in stock IRCMs.... same exact part was used in about 2 million Taurus / Sable.

You would be surprised what simple things are model-specific. For example:

console shifter -- millions of 'em
shifter cable -- TC-specific, obsolete
