speed limiter

Do these cars have speed limiters normally? I know mine does, but when I searched on here I dont see any mention of speed limiters. Mine is limited right at about 100 mph. I have read several people talk about going faster than that with stock cars. Is there a way to get rid of this?

These cars have rev limiters. They did not come with speed limiters.

What happens at 100 mph that it won't go faster.

Well, it just stops at 100. It has since I got it. It pulls real hard right till then, and then it will just stop. No missing, bucking, or anything weird. It doesnt matter what gear I am in either. It just wont go.

You got me. Are you sure it isn't a GM?

Do you think that is possible that someone had an aftermarket limiter installed or something to keep their kid from going to fast?

I guess it's possible but I never heard of an after market limiter nor have I heard of one in a TC. If it's set for 100 they missed the boat anyhow.

There are a couple things you could try. Testing the WG to see if it's blowing open. This is kind of a guess as it doesn't fit everything you describe. In the same vein, maybe run the fuel system diagnostics to make sure it isn't fuel limited. Again a guess that doesn't fit everything.

I really would doubt the wastegate, or the fuel pressure are the culprit on this one. I have had the car for about 4+ years. I always assumed that it was limited at 100. It is always at the exact same speed, no matter what gear, boost level, throttle position it is at. I can be part or full throttle. Fourth, or Fifth gear. It was like this on the regular fuel setting, as well as premium. It is still that way now that I have bypassed the bcs. It gets there quicker now. The only mod to the car is that I turned up the boost to around 17-18, and I have run [email protected] in the 1/8 mile. If it is not a speed limiter, I wouldnt have a clue what it would be because like I said, it is always at the same speed, and it just stops accelerating.

Exactly how are you determining that the car doesn't continue accelerating past 100mph? I'll presume you're not judging by the speedo alone, so what is the tach doing at this point?

Even if the EEC had a speed limiter in it (which it doesnt), it wouldnt "just stop accelerating" at 100. All OEM speed limiters drop out cylinders by shutting off a few injectors, which causes the motor to run REALLY rough when hitting the limiter.

Are you sure it has the stock EEC with no aftermarket chip attached to the J3 port?

As Steve is hinting at, maybe a speedo problem? I have seen a few cars (not TCs) where the speedo would stick at a certain speed due to a bent needle, etc.

I am judging by the fact that I stop gaining rpm and speed. I dont know what causes it if there is no limiter, but it just stops accelerating.

I have no idea if the car has a chip. By attatched to the J3 port, what do you mean. Is j3 the port connected to the computer? I am pretty sure I replaced the computer a few years ago w/ a normal replacement from a parts store. Are the chips normally used to change programming on these cars just the stock prom type inside the the computer?
