Hell of a day!

I wrecked my bird today... my fault too. [Image: frown.gif] I'm kind of pissed about it, but not totally. Well, I am pissed, but I'm more pissed about all the time and effort I put into the car only to have this happen to it.

The car I'm not sure will be worth fixing... today has been so crazy that I haven't had time to even really look it over good, and to be honest I don't really feel like looking it over. Here's what happened:

This morning, I suprisingly got a call from my insurance company about the Tbird. "We've got good news...your Tbird is eligible for some more discounts...should save you about $30 every six months." Awesome! I says

So, fast forward to lunchtime...decided to go to CompUSA to check some stuff out. Came up to this intersection (very dangerous one too BTW) and got into the turn lane to turn left. Opposite me also turning left into the other side of the street was a huge ass pickup truck... like an F-250 dually or something... needless to say, I can't see around the side of this guy. Well, behind him I can see just fine and in front of him I can see, and there doesn't appear to be any cars coming...the light's red in that direction up the street anyway. I wait a few seconds to see if anyone's in his blind spot...doesn't appear to be, so I hang a left... about the time I get into oncoming traffic, you can imagine my horror as I saw an '89 Honda Accord almost right on top of me. Crap! Nothing I can do... screech and bang... the bird's been hit.

Thankfully everyone is okay. I think by the time that the other guy hit me he was probably only going about 20 MPH or so, but he hit the right spot on my car... right in front of the passenger's side front wheel, crumpling my nose like a piece of paper. I think the car folding up absorbed most of the shock, as I felt almost nothing inside my car, and they were unscathed even though they hit me from straight on.

Surprisingly, NOT 2 MINUTES after the wreck happens, a guy in a Maroon '88 Turbo Coupe...just like mine inside and out, goes driving right past the wreck. 2 seconds later the cop shows up and helps us move the cars out of the intersection. Maroon TC comes driving back up in the parking lot. "You wanna sell it?" Amazing, what are the odds??? I told him I very well might want to sell it now, and gave him my number (he was ready to negotiate on the spot, but the cop wouldn't have anything to do with it).

I'll have a good look at it later, but right now I don't have a good feeling about the repairability of it. I've posted some pictures and let you be the judge. Maybe I ought to start looking for another one and use this one for parts. Totally bummed.

I'm just glad to hear everyone is OK. Don't make any hasty decisions. Give it a couple days

Sorry to see and hear about your bird. On the plus side it looks like it will not be that hard to fix. Do not jump on an offer. Take the time and look deeper into the wounds to make sure they are only skin deep.

Thanks guys... I'm sure I can get new skin for it, that part I'm not too worried about, as I'm sure I can get all that stuff. The car still drives, but scrapes the fender obviously (and of course with the radiator hose kinked like it is, you don't want to drive it anyway). Honestly, I was expecting to have to get some framework done on the core support anyway since it was all bent up, and I already have a good bumper cap to replace this one. So, maybe it's not as bad as I think.

I'll tear into it in the next day or so and see what I think.

OUCH, I feel for you. I have had a TC totaled. 4K worth of damage to the driver side quater etc. Take a look at what it needs and DONT jump on an offer. The frame might even be ok, who knows. The front end stuff can be had prety easily im sure, and its just nuts and bolts. Sorry bout the bird man, [Image: frown.gif]

While trying to get the last remaining parts to get my TC out of tlswarts garage, I wrecked the wifes grandmothers car. It is going to take me some time to get the core support straight enought to let the hood latch again, but I think that I can do it here at home. I did figure out that grandma's car had been hit in the front end once before, there is no more adjustment to the driverside fender going to the front. Just take your time on it and you should come out all right.

Mr. Vanos,

Your car definatley looks fixable to me [Image: smile.gif] I had the same type of accident a few months back.. Same color car and everything only I was hit much harder and my frame was deemed unrepairable [Image: frown.gif] AND I WAS HIT BY AN 80'S HONDA! Those things are damn tanks! I also had liability and was of course at fault.. so yeah, blah.

Anyway, my engine still runs so I plan on yanking it and doing the Mustang swap [Image: biggrin.gif] I went and bought a sunroof bird and pulled the interior and accessories etc from the wrecked and swapped away [Image: smile.gif] Anyway like I said, yours looks repairable, I wouldn't sweat it (too much [Image: smile.gif] ) Here's what mine looks like. The guys at the towing place dumped the car into another car, thinking I didn't want it anymore [Image: mad.gif] but it looks the same as it did on the street but the passenger fender was still on.. dunno how that came off.

Man, that sucks. From the look of it, the damage is a little more than sheet metal.... I am guessing the front subframe is bent some, but hopefully it can be pulled back into shape.
