My current setup:
Knock sensor disconnected
764 coppers gapped at 0.30"
87 octane
Wastegate disconnected
Fuel pressure @ 39 PSI base
12* base timing
"premium" mode disabled unless I put in 93 ocatane
I nail 18 PSI almost every day, 19+ if I'm going uphill or really slamming the pedal.. No audible detonation, and I've been keeping tabs on the plugs. Gapping them @ 0.30" seemed to make all signs of running lean go away completely. Is anybody else getting away with this, or do I just have a magical Turbo Coupe?

18psi on 87 doesnt sound too good. I'm sure you'll be ok if you dont hear detonation, but I kept my knock sensor connected because I'd rather lose a few hp then have my motor blow up. I have never run less than 89 in my car and I haven't boosted more than 15psi.

What boost gauge are you using? Cuz if you're running the stock IHI without the wastegate connected I GUARANTEE it will overboost to 30+PSI within 1-2 seconds of WOT.
At that point you might as well be driving a diesel...

I know lots of guys that don't run a wastegate on the IHI and can't get more than 19 PSI out of it...

Are you not running a wastegate, or are you not running a Boost control valve...???

Wastegate is totally disconnected. I didn't have to do it before I swapped turbos, but I'm pretty sure the actuator spring is messed up. With the original turbo on the car and the factory BCS connected, it would go to 10 PSI below 4,000 RPM and 15 above 4,000 RPM, so I'm pretty sure the gauge is accurate. I did the bypass and got 17 PSI, and the turbo blew shortly after.
I put the new turbo on and could only get 5 PSI with the BCS connected and 11 with it bypassed on the same gauge. I disconnect the wastegate completely and the gauge will show full boost & boost comes on much quicker. I think the backpressure in the exhaust housing is pushing the flapper door open after 19 PSI because the spring is too weak to hold it closed.

That's crazy! I know mine will spin into OBLIVION without a reference line to the wastegate. All I can say is be careful...

Reeve had to put a spring on his wastegate to get 20 psi out of the IHI...so it makes sense, but still scary. Why don't you add a spring onto the flapper arm, and then hook the wastegate back up with a boost controller, would be much safer.
