Small Short Questions

1. What gasket set includes the upper to lower intake gasket (valvetrain set, rebuild set, etc.)? I'm sure Ford doesn't sell it as a separate piece.
2. Does Ford still carry the injector o rings for a 88 TC?
3. I'm tired of driving a punch through the oil filter to remove it. Anybody have any experience with the K&N filter with the nut on the end? Is it as good as a Motorcraft?
Thanks Guys (and Girls),

1.Unless you can get an intake gasket set only, It's probably cheaper to buy them separate. An upper end kit (head Rebuild) has a lot of stuff you won't need. Check a parts store for Fel-Pro. Probably cheaper than Ford

2. Almost any parts store will have injector O rings, probably in stock. Again, cheaper than Ford. Just oil them before sticking into the fuel rail and the intake manifold.

3. Oil filter, If you have to put a punch in it, it is being installed too tight. Ford spec is 20 to 25 Lbs ft. This is less than somebody could do one handed.

you put any oil on the oil ring when you install the oil filter? that can make a big difference.

Last time I bought a set it did include a lot of extras (IAC gasket, throttle body to upper intake gasket, EGR gasket, upper to lower intake gasket, intake gasket to head) so unless you need those, it probably would be cheaper to get the single gasket.

The injector O ring kit that I use to get at NAPA would have both O rings, a new pintle cap and the spacer.

As far as the oil filter, I have a tendency to find out I got them on too tight when the nextr round of oil change comes. I use a strap that goes around the filter and the more leverage you use, the tighter it gets on the filter. Works great and there's enough room for it. Have never needed to use a punch or destroy a filter otherwise.

Thanks guys. The oil filter thing probably comes from a bad experience when one fell off my car on the interstate one time. I haven't found a filter wrench yet that fits between the steering shaft and the filter. Yep, I put oil on the gasket before installing. That lesson also comes from a bad experience a long time ago. You can see my relationship with oil filters comes from a lot of bad experiences. Guess with a little prodding I can get them done in a week. Thanks for the advice on everything. I want everything in hand before I start.

I'm banking on the injector change turning that number three spark plug white instead of black. These are supposed to be flow tested and matched.

I have a filter wrench that uses what looks like a bike chain instead of a strap. Nowhere near enough room to get a full turn with it in the TC, but it's enough to get a tight filter loosened.

You can imagine how I hold my breath when that hammer drives that punch through the filter. So, has anybody used the K&N Oil Filter instead of a Motorcraft? Having that nut on the bottom might help might help if I happened to eat Wheaties for breakfast when I changed the filter.

These are the band type oil filter wrenches. The size you want are in the middle and on the right end. I can usually get the filter off with gloved hands, but the wrench will get them loose otherwise.
I don't use a wrench to put one one.

Why not use the Merkur Oil Filter adapter? It puts the filter in a 90*. I'm sure you can grab one in the "wanted" section of the Merkur website.
