My limited slip doesn't seem to lock up both rear wheels except on slippery road surfaces like snow. Even in the rain only 1 wheel spins. On dry pavement, forget it. I suspect the original owner beat on the car.
Can the clutches be adjusted or is their a posi-traction lube that would help the problem?

Sounds like the clutch packs are worn down.
You should get them replaced if you are only spinning 1 wheel.
That could possibly damage the rest of the posi assembly.

Fred, I'm no rear end expert but lube isn't going to fix it. The best fix is new clutch packs

OK. Who over than a blue oval dealer would have them? Also is this something I could do or would the rear end have to be set up with new preload settings?

You need your trac lok repacked, it is not hard, but it sure is smelly! the friction modifier has fish oil in it, if you get it on your bare hands, you will stink for a week. My wife now insists that we hire this out.

Most of the big Mustang 5.0 mail order supply houses sell T lock rebuild kits for around $60. The T lock in 87-88 TC is the same as those in Mustang 5.0s (8.8" diff)Call some of the vendors listed in MM&FF, or check their web sites.
All the special tools that the manual claims you need is BS. Just yank the axles, pull the S spring (the hardest part, IMO), and yank the old clutches / steels. Put in the new stuff using the tightest shim you can get in there, and reassemble. Soak the new clutches in friction modifier for a day first.
Yup, hypoid gear oil, and especially fritcion modifier STINK. I have a special drawer in the basement that I keep my "rear end work" clothes in so as not to stink up any good clothes, and if I get any of it in my hair, I end up sleeping on the couch for a night or 2.
BTW, worn clutches wont harm anything in the rear end, you just wont have much traction.

What year is your TC? If it is an 83-86, you may want to look at an axle swap.

Methos,
I'm interested in that rear end. Let's talk.
