What are your opinions on B&M verses Hurst?

I'm looking at a Ripper or Hurst Billet.
I would also like to get a shifter rod that comes back a bit more.
Do these really help shifting or just create a shorter throw?
I'd like to get smoother shifting more than quiker shifts.

Gary, for a set back shifter handle that works with either the stock shifter or most aftermarket units see: http://www.mgwltd.com/mustang_shift_handle.html I'm seriously considering one right now.
I want to find out if my stock knob is a direct screw on. Be sure to check out the video on adjusting it at the bootom of the page.
i can't really tell you much about the aftermarket shifters. One of the mags did a comparison not to long ago but I don't remember who or just when and I don't have the mag.

Without question, in my opinion, the PRO 5.0 is the best shifter, period! The only glitch in the past was the short handle, now they have a longer one for $10 more. i will be soon ordering a new T-5 and it will have another Pro 5.0 shifter, and i am going to see if a Steeda Tri-x handle will fit. I have had the Hurst, and Hurst gold and the last 4 have that i have purchased have been Pro-5.0, recommended to me by an employee of BBK.

One more thing, you used to be able to order the hurst shifter for a T-Bird, same shifter with different handle. They can also be ordered from hurst, in fact they have at least 50 different ones. I have been welding a 7/16-20 x 5 bolt to the cut off short pro 5.0 shifter will good results on the early mustangs. If you think you want one of these welded up, i would be happy to do one for you at no charge, just the shipping; OR, somehow I can dig up the old hurst catalog and give you the t-bird shifter handle part number.

I ordered both Hurts shifters from my work so that I could compare side by side. The Billit shifter for the Mustang is what I went with to install in my car. It was about $50.00 cheaper then the Tbird unit and felt the same and fit the same as the one shown for the Tbird. Any aftermarket shifter will be an improvement over the stock peice. I keep going back to Hurst because I have always been happy with it. Now this doesn't mean I think there is anything wrong with the others. The Pro 5.0 has a great reputation and even though I have not owned one I have driven a 2000 GT with a Pro 5.0 and it was a nice shifter. To me at least felt just like my Hurst.
Be prepared though to feel more vibration a nd slightly higher effort with an after market shifter. The do not use the rubber isolaters that Ford does. That and the shorter throw makes the slightly stiffer feeling due to the change in leverage. On the up side though they are more direct and accurate and worth every penny!

Check out this link over to Stangnet where they have a review section for such items.

When I get around to ordering a new shifter for my Mustang, it will definitely be a
Pro 5.0 and if I was considering one for my 88TC this would also be the shifter of choice. All I have read and researched, the Pro 5.0 is about the best there is especially for hard gear banging. B&M Ripper would be my second choice, and is a really good shifter. Out of all the choices, I have heard more disatisfaction with Hurst than the others, but everyone has their personal preferences. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to knock on Hurst or any other brand, just stating what I've read or learned in the past.

I've felt a few diff shifters in mustangs, and my favorite, and the one I put in my new tranny, is the B&M Ripper. I ordered it for the 88 5.0, but supposedly it is better for the t-birds
