I happen to have an 87-89 mustang 5.0 rear end , it's a 2.73 gear ratio and I think I recall that they aren't quite wide enough to fit the TC? I searched but I was just trying to figure out the difference to put it in my 86 TC or if I should get one from a TC to start with

Pretty sure the housing is the same between the Mustang and T-Bird. It is the axles that are different lengths. Also pretty sure you can put your axles from the 7.5 into the 8.8 no problem.

The mustang axle if its a 86-93 is 1.5" narrower over all. It will bolt in.
But the really big deal for you is the 2.73 gears...that would be a no no in a turbo coupe.
You maybe....and I say maybe be able to get away with 3.27 because your car is lighter 1986. But you really need 3.55 or 3.73.

Well I was figuring I would put the right gears in it but I have just had the 8.8 sitting in the shop for quite a while now and Wasn't exactly sure what all I would have to do to get it in the TC
