In response to the topic - Dumb Rant. I know the difference between a motor and an engine but what exactly is a Search Engine?
I have heard the words before but have never seen a heading that says Search Engine.
Yes, I find this humorous, but I really am not sure what to do to find the Search Engine. Same as when some one asks me, Did you Google it? Where the hell do I find a Google?
Go right a-head and laugh. Guess I just don't understand the ling-go.

A 'Search Engine' is the code, or programming, behind the search input boxes you've used before.

In the upper right of this screen is a line of text with;
my profile | directory | search | forum faq | forum home

Click search and input what you are looking for and the 'search engine' does the rest.

I dunno, since it's an electric powered computer should it be called a 'search motor'??

Otherwise:

Actually, the first usage of google is to describe the number 10 raised to the 100th power. It was coined by the 9 year old nephew of a mathematician around 1938. Long before the present incarnation of the term.

Google: First a number, then a company, and now a verb. Language evolution.

Cool info though - I never knew the real history.

Search engine or search motor it is neither but it does search for us. cool. Thank you.
As for 10 to the 100th power. I wish I could google my retirement fund and retire. If I asked the kid on the computer at my union to google my retirement fund he would probably ask me what the F--- I am talking about. How many miles on that 86 R.C.
Tanks for the info guys.
