Scrapping, rubbing noise

I'm just throwing it out there. It's happened to several people through the years. Hasn't happened to me yet so I don't know what sounds to expect. When you spin the wheels as you described, where does the noise come? Is it out by the wheels or in/near the center section?

I believe the center. If I spin one and it locs the other in it makes the.noise. if I have someone hold the one and I spin the other its silent.

I figuure changing it won't hurt anyways. Mobil 1 75w90 and Ford friction modifier good ?

The part number for ESP-M2C154-A (spec) is EOAZ-1980-A, B, C .
Goggle the EOAZ number and you will come away thoroughly confused.
I'd go with the 75W90. 3.5 pints + the friction modifyer.

The friction modifier is 4oz of C8AZ-19B546-A

Alright I got the correct friction modifier but is that part no for the gear oil specific one?

That part number is the Ford Number that I found in a 1988 Ford Specifications for Rear Wheel Drive Automobiles book. It is specific for hypoid gear oil. Rear axle oil.

Use Mobil 1. If the bottle has "LS" on it (I think they all do) no friction modifier is necessary.

Already have the friction stuff so I'll put it in there anyways. I'll post back tomorrow if it fixes it

Synthetic, synthetic, synthetic. I think all the fluids in my TC are synthetic, except the brake fluid, coolant and of course the battery acid. Wink

I use synthetic because it doesn't break down--at least, as easily--and in the extreme heat we have in the Phoenix area during the summertime, it's practically a must-have.

Oh, and the windshield washer fluid (does Rain-X count?).
Another proud dues-paying member.

1987 Turbo Coupe w/T5OD, 8.8 axle, grey smoke; most options. Got it in 1991 with 41K miles: 3 turbos, 2 heater cores, 3 T5OD full rebuilds, 6 clutches, 1 head gasket, 2 Teves II ABS units, etc. later....
