SABOTAGE?!?

Just this last Saturday, my car sounded like the pads were shot on the rear driver side. Pete and I had noticed wear on the pass. side while changing the fuel pump, so I just ASSUMED that this side was going bad also. When the car developed a bad wobble 5 minutes later, I decided to check it for safety's sake. I popped the cap off the LR wheel and found, to my surprise, that not only had someone taken one bolt, the other three weren't even hand tight!!!!!!!! I'm afraid to think what would've happened on the highway with my boost addicted foot. Or if this was the one day Becky drove it somewhere without me! Why would someone do that?

Today, while Pete was over, I removed the cap again to re-check and/or tighten again. Upon tightening one of the 3 remaining bolts, one BROKE OFF with the threads in it!!!! Too much abuse while they were loose I guess. I didn't even tighten it hard, it just broke. All this after my CD's were stolen out of the same car!!! I think I need to sleep in this thing from now on. Too bad my garage isn't big enough for both of them. Besides, then they would just burn down the garage. Sorry, I don't mean to sound so paranoid, but, I haven't slept good in a week. Maybe I'll just put the locking bolts on them and forget it for now. Sheesh! What next?

Thanks for letting me vent... [Image: frown.gif]

Les that sucks. If someone actually loosened your lug nuts then it sounds like there's a psycho floating around. I would think about tapping the dish portion where the lug nuts go and putting on a torx bolt to hold the center caps on. Either that or use 4 sets of wheel locks and put one on every single lug. Nothing is more chicken$#!t than messing with a man's vehicle!

Dammit Dammit Dammit!!! I was replacing the 3 bad bolts that were left, with extras from the other car, when the third thread decided it will no longer take a bolt on it. Of course the two are on the same side, so I can't cheat even if I dared. I don't believe this! !@#$%^*#!^@$#@$#^^@&#&()@^!%

...If someone did this AND I find out who, I believe I will ... Never Mind.

I had the same thing happen to me a couple years back. It was on my 83 (5.0 at the time..now becoming 2.3T). I was driving home from work on the interstate, when all of a sudden the car began to make a horrendus noise..kind of like a flat tire..or a wheel was coming off. So I easily coast to the shoulder, and as I tap the brakes to bring the car to a stop, it goes "clunk!" hops to the left and stops. Well, I get out, walk around and the wheel is still on..or at least it looks like it. The wheel is actually no longer attached to the axle and the drum is resting on the inside of the rim! The hop was caused by the now loose drum cocking a bit on the pads/axle and jamming itself. I called my wife to bring the tools and jack..and we got it home fine, but it is not something I want to do again.

I know it was tampered w/ because I ALWAYS retorque my wheels if I have had them off and kind of a ritual habit...

I'm just glad it didn't come flying off while I was doing 70.....

Its funny that your car can get broken into over and over but when you hid and wait with a 9MM they never come.......

That sucks Les, do you have the parts to fix it?

Call me again or drop me an email , I cant find your number, I have the motor out completely now.

OK, GT. I fixed the 3rd bolt and got it on. I WILL be going to Dayton!!! WooHoo! I also put that intercooler bracket on so it will stop blowing off. It runs great, but I won't over do it just in case. I put on a different turn signal/FTP switch and the headlights still don't work. Oh well... I'm gonna go recheck those bolts to be sure...
