Replacement Fuel Injectors?

Hurff, check real close to be sure it is a leaking injector body or connector. The OEM o-rings are pretty inexpensive (even from the Ford dealer) compared to replacement injectors. Here's the link to one cross reference (not great, but better than nothing):
http://www.turboford.org/faq/injectors.shtml

I ordered a set of reconditioned brown top injectors from www.fiveomotorsport.com day before yesterday. They were supposed to be here overnight (that didn't happen). They're supposedly blueprinted (whatever that means) and carry a one year warranty (Bruce said he'd work with me on that if they failed out of warranty). I'll let you know how they do after (if?) I get them. You can go to that site for a pretty good catalog page of injectors with specs too.

The seal at the top of the injector going into the fuel rail was tight as anything I have every seen, the one injector I saw a leak was right at the brown plastic junction to the metal body.

Of course now that I found the head was cracked, I have to await a funding infusion to continue the fight...

Hurff, I feel for you. I just found out that FedEx screwed up my shipment. The fuel injectors didn't arrive locally until yesterday morning, they don't do Saturday delivery and didn't even bother to call so I could pick them up at the terminal. I guess when you pay for overnight, it dosn't really matter if you get it on time, huh?

I'm headed for Puerto Rico on Monday , so it will be next weekend before I can install them. I'll let you know how they work out. I'll have to send in the cores, but I have 12 old ones to pick from. Do you want me to save you one of the known good ones I'm running now?

Saving one would be sweet... I scour a local pick & pull, but you kinda have to be lucky to get there when the car arrives. Most of the 'easy' parts seem to evaporate before the car hits the yard, or are gone fairly quickly. Have fun in PR, we are expecting 4-8 inches of snow in DC.

1987 TC, on the way to get it inspected, found blown HG, leaking injectors... but I keep saying there cant be much more to fix, right ?

Yeah, Pete I'll do my best. Last year I went to Minnesota about this same time and brought -5* back to the Ozarks with me. Maybe I can bring back the opposite this time.

Hurff, I'll save one for you I know is not leaking. I'll need a ship to address, so PM me. I don't know how much fun I'll have in PR. I'm going down to service two landfill gas flare systems, set up datalogging software and train the operators on troubleshooting / maintenance. But I'll do my best to see some of the island.

I'm baaaack! Man it's cold here. Kinda wishin I hadn't got on zee plane in San Juan. I tried to bring you that warm weather Pete, but so far it seems to be suffering some jet lag. [Image: wink.gif]

The injectors came in last Monday and Bruce at fiveomotorsport says he'll work out the snafu with FedEx and refund the difference between ground and next day shipping charges. Cool!

I should get them installed tomorrow and will post with the results.

I installed the set of rebuilt / blueprinted brown top injectors from www.fiveomotorsport.com today. They came in well packed (individually sealed in plastic with dessicant packs) and look to be essentially brand new, with new o-rings, filters, pintle caps and spacers.

Installation went smoothly (by now it should , as many o-rings as I've put in trying to stop the leaks). I used petroleum jelly on the o-rings as I've read here and that's the easiest I've seen them go into the fuel rail yet.

Results: The car hasn't idled this smooth since I've owned it. Seat-of-the-pants dyno says the throttle response and acceleration are much better now as well. I didn't know my '87 could ever run this good! Best of all, no more gas fumes in the passenger compartment and I can comfortably put the fire extinguisher back in the trunk now. IMHO, it was $200 well spent.

(arg, second time typing this)

Sooooo.... many years later, and surprise I end up back where I started. Leaking injectors, this time more than 1. So, snapping my fingers, heck this is easy, quick pull of the intake, 10 mintues to swap out with the spares I have accumulated over the last years from the JY and I am good to go.

Until I end up swapping out 5 injectors to have them all leak. The last one in the box was this really dirty caked up, crappy one that looks like it was ran *in* oil.... used oil.... So far it has not leaked. (but then again neither did 2 others until about 1/2 hour had passed...)

Nitro-X had ordered a replacement set of injectors from 5-0 motorsports, I was wondering how this worked out... Any long-term use updates ?

I am at the point where I only want to do this one more time. Working with 15+ year old parts for something this critical is just getting old. (and after {literally) 8 failed injectors, the words 'reconditioned' are just scary)

Besides, gas fumes just arent as fun as they once were when I was younger. I blame the MTBE and ethanol additives.

It really is a disgrace about the quality of JY parts any more. I think the yard owners should have to clean and flow all injectors and put them back in the car (with new O rings) before the car is released to the yard. When I'm elected President, I'll initiate a constitutional amendment to that affect and attach it, as an amendment, to the next tax cut pork barrel bridge to nowhere shrink goverment bill that gets introduced. Big Grin

Did you use new O rings.

I just had a couple sets cleaned and flowed by Rich at Cruzin Performance. When I told him what I wanted to send him (brown tops), his comment was send a few spares, they are "notorious leakers"
I lucked out that all 8 were good.

I checked and Nitro_X hasn't logged in since March '06
