removing yellow from headlights

From Mustang 5.0,"I hope this helps those with headlammp lenses turning yellow. Coat the lens with Castrol Super Cleaner sprayed on a clean rag. Make sure you don't get any of the cleaner on your car as it will discolor the paint immediately. As you're cleaning the lens, the rag will show a residue that resembles a cigarette nicotine stain. Continue to work the lens untill the rag comes away clean, then flush each headlight with cold water. After drying the lenses, apply Meguiar's Mirror Glaze clear-plastic cleaner with another clean rag, and you're done." The writer states he has five Mustangs and four Turbo Coupes so he's had a lot of pratice. I don't have this issue with my 83 but I thought I would pass it on. May o6, page 240.
83 dead bird, in pieces however I'm reading from the book of the dead, should be running soon.

I used that Flitz polish and my buffer. Has anybody else tried it yet? Looks as good as my wet sanded and polished ones...but mush less work! James

2000 grit finish sand paper and some water for about 10 minutes on the lenses until the wash-off is white and no longer yellow.

Rubbing compound and a dremel polish wheel for about 10 minutes followed by a wax. Headlights now look great but still suck at throwing light because the inside silver is faded also. New headlights in the mail!

I bought mine at our local hunting store. I guess you can use it to clean and polish guns too.

anyone ever tried using CLR ? My girl friend bought somethe other day to clean out the tub after my head swap. Boy was she pissed. The enitre tub had a black ring around it after I showered. Seemed to work pretty good. I was just wondering what it might to for the headlights.

I doubt CLR would do anything besides make them clean... I have used brake fluid (yes, DOT 3) and a toothbrush on my lenses before and it worked, but you have to make sure you get ALL of the brake cleaner off of the plastic in a very timely manner or the lenses will cloud up and they'll be worse than before.. I learned this the hard way. I also tried gluing tin foil inside of the headlamp assy and polishing it with aluminum polish. It wasn't even worth the effort. $98 later I had new headlights delivered to my door from www.fordpartsonline.com - BIG difference! I no longer need my glasses to drive at night! (unless I need to read street names.. haha)
