Ok guys, how do I remove the headrest without damaging the seat. I got some nice Mustang nits from the jythe ones with the holes in the middle, but had to cut down the center of the seat ro get to the release plates. How do I get them to come out easy without cutting the seat in half?

Where the headrest goes into the top of the seat you will see a plastic sleeve insert.
Use a piece of flat steel or heavy gauge metal
smaller then the headrest shaft about 8" long. Slide it down between the shaft and plastic sleeve from the front of seat.
This will unlock the headrest and just pull it out.

Quote:The foam and upolstery may be sort of annoying to remove and there is a trick to removing the headrest. I found it easiest to get the headrest off by going up the back of the seat with a long screwdriver to push the little catch down.

The best tool to use that I've found is a 'slimjim'. Tow truck drivers use them to unlock cars. Slide the slimjim down the front of the headrest bar and pop the clip, while pulling up on the headrest. Should come right out.

Sounds simple doesn't it. It ain't! It's a real PITA!

The best method I've found is to go to an upholstery shop, be real nice and pretend you're an idiot. Ask 'em 'how do ya take these damn things out?' Then ask 'em 'how much would you charge to do it?' If your lucky, they'll call over the lowest guy on the totem pole, he'll have them out in about 5 seconds, and hopefully won't charge you anything! Then proceed to praise them, profusely! Tell them they're gods and from now on, any upholstery work you or your friends need to have done, is gonna be done there! Worked for me!
