It's finally coming together. Up close pics of the shortblock are below. It's bored .040 over, has stock rods with ARP bolts, std pressure & volume oil pump.

The pistons are forged TRW L2455F flat-tops of the "2300 Pinto" variety, the 4032 alloy. They have a round dish milled in them to get compression back into the 8:1 range, exact compression hasn't been calculated yet. They were milled by some Ford guys my machinest knows out in Ohio, they didn't think the D vs. an O shape to be a worry. Since this isn't a race motor and I'll never push it that hard it shouldn't be a problem for me, it probably shouldn't be boosted to hard since the block's at 40 over anyhow.

Milling was $140, pistons were $300, rings were around 70. So that's just over $500 for all of it, around the same cost as the Diamonds or CPs but didn't have to wait for them.

I read over at Turboford that the stock pistons in the 2.3T were of the 4032 alloy, here's a useful article on the two types of forged aluminum alloys used in pistons:

nope not a new crank, just grind & balanced. did refresh the rods too, resized .010.

The rings are Sealed Power E441K plasma-molys.

Damn, stuff adds up quick. The whole rebuild cost me $2756. Ouch. It's going to be a while before I get my 3" exhaust and FMIC put on Undecided

I added pics of the bottom side of the block to the first post.

i had bought a crankshaft kit and i am not happy with the rear main seal area as is leaks like a siv. replaced it once after the shortblock install.... im gonna try it agian when i chaneg the clutch in the next year or so. seems the seal is alil to large for the crank..i bought a sleeve to go over the crank...but just upsetting to spend a few thousand in parts and still have it leak oil.

i did mine .40 over also using seal power pistons and rings. i also got the coolant tube kit from forced 4, and chuck w mounts. best combo of parts IMO.

good luck with the build keep us updated!

it's done! she'll be in the car and running Monday. I'm pumped.

here's some hurried cell-phone pics ready to go into the TC:

Had it painted all black :-D I like no-frills. Although a blue-oval colored block was kinda tempting. I'll be sure and get better pics once it's in the car and running, the VC looks pretty nice all touched up and re-painted black again.

oh ya, final compression turned out to be 8.256:1. that's with decked block and resurfaced head, dished pistons, and shimmed.

Well, it's in. Just took the TC for a spin witht he new motor! Smooth as silk. Not a thing is different besides an overhauled long-block and some spark plugs. I swear it runs smoother and quieter than the old motor did.

I'll get some picks up in a couple days after I've cleaned up the bay a little bit!
