I had my engine rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago, and I was driving home from work and didnt watch heat gauge, and I blew a hole int piston #3, should I just replace the on piston and have it bored out(if possible) or do i need to do all. i dont know a hole lot in this are, any help is appreciated.

If you burned a hole in a piston you may have a fuel issue in that cylinder or in the whole engine. Why did it overheat? You need to know or it may do it again.

Assuming the cylinder wall is OK, just put a new piston of the same size in it. If you only got 10K on the rebuild there is probably no need to bore it and it may not even need a hone. Have the rod checked for straightness.

the wall were the hole is is a little stratched up, not near as smooth as the rest of the all, you can see and fill the roughness. the thermostat wasent working (I am kinda pissed, wondering if the guy used the same one). found out a tad too late.

Can i just get #3 bored and honed, or is it an all or none thing? cause if theres scratches i have to have it done right?

to keep it short, yes you will have to bore all of them or none of them.

Engines have to have a very close balance to the moving parts, if you put one piston in, that weighes more than the other 3, it will be out of balance, other than that, it will work, just don't expect any performance from it.

I think it would be cheaper to find another short block than to have machine work done again.

If the bad area is at the top of the bore, above the top ring area, it won't make much difference in performance. Is it something that might hone out without an over bore?

Letting the cat out of the bag is a whole lot easier than putting it back in.
