I bought my 87 TC in Nov and in the year that I've owned it it's been on the road and off the road. It's only on the road for a week or two before something new goes so wrong that it won't start. All the work I've done so far has been mechanical and many people say to just rebuild the engine. So What all is needed for a genaral 2.3 turbo rebuild.

What kind of problems have you had? Why do you think the engine needs a rebuild. The engines are one of the toughest Parts of these cars.
We will be glad to help if it really needs a rebuild. Just hate to see you spend the money if it isn't the problem

Well so far I've changed the oil pump, Aux shaft and bearings, timing belt and tensoner, distributer and module, along with plugs, wires, coil, cap, roter, and it ran good for a week and a half and then out of nowhere I hear a knocking noise and it's low on power and shaking like crazy. I checked the engine and the knocking is coming from the valve cover. My brother said that he has heard that 2.3 fords will flaten cam lobes and I'm getting frustrated. The car has 170,000+ miles on it. The turbo works great in fact it puts out about 15psi. What does everyone think, should I rebuild it or just fix the cam prob and hope nothing else goes wrong in a week or two.

There are a lot of guys here with well over 200 K on original bottom ends:
See http://natomessageboard.com/Forum1/HTML/014860.html

I would do a compression and even a leak down test to see what the cylinders/pistons and rings are like. Yes these things do eat cams and that may be what you need. See what a compression test tells you and go from there.
I would recommend the test even if I were going to teat is down. If you have done an oil pump, aux shaft and bearings then there may be something going on that indicates a rebuild is needed.
