Rear Window Trim on a 88 TC

My TC has a rubber trim piece that surrounds the entire rear window. As with many the rubber is shot. I purchased a trim set off Ebay that is supposely for an 88 T-Bird TC however it is steel and came in several pieces. I guess my question is did I purchase the right part? And, is there any special mounting I'll need to do? As always thanks in advance.

I've seen the same advertised for an 88, but I don't think the 87-88s came with metal trim. The earlier birds did. The 88 trim consists of a plastic like piece that goes around the perimeter of the glass and has a little channel that allows the other trim piece to "snap" into it. So...the 88 trim consists of 2 pieces, one of which you won't see once te other piece is installed.

My '88 has the metal trim pieces for the rear window. My last two '88s had the one piece plastic trim that snapped into a channel in the window. I see them from time to time on Ebay.

The switch from metal to rubber was made early in the 88 model year.

Any ideas how to get the metal ones on to replace the rubber.

You cannot use the metal ones if your car never had them without adding the attachment pins to the body of the car. The amount of work to do this would be way more than the cost to take your car to a glass shop and have them install a universal window trim seal. They have to take the glass out and then install the seal around the glass edge. Then reinstall the window. I was quoted $70 to do this but have not had time to take my car in

The build month of one of my '88s is January and it has the original metal rear window trim. The other '88 build month was March, so that narrows down the time frame of change-over a little bit.

I'm going through this now while painting mine, and am seriously considering switching to the metal trim. Should be easy to tack weld those studs on, since my rear window is out right now.
