The 1987 and early 88s had metal trim around the rear window.

Later 88s used a plastic/rubber? type of trim.

What is the difference in the body/glass of the metal trim and plastic/rubber trim cars?

Can a late 88 with nasty plastic/rubber trim be converted to use the 87-early 88 style metal trim?

Kevin,
The metal trim requires clips to hold it in. These clips are held in on "nubs" for lack of a better term in the window channel. I've yet to get somebody with a late 88 to pull all of the weatherstripping goo out to see if the nubs are still there. If they are, converting to the metal trim will be a snap-in affair.

Mike, Vinnie,

Most excellent! Thanks for the information. Vinnie, I am all ears. I am VERY hopeful that the "nubs" exist on the plastic cars and they can be retrofited with the metal trim.

If, by chance, your car doesn't have the nubs, you can get a tool that welds them on from Harbor Freight Tools. That is if you have one in your area. They are releatively inexpensive and you can also you use it pull dents without drilling holes. But all this will bemute if the nubs are in hidding under the goo. Big Grin

I was watching an episode last week of Muscle Car on the Speed Channel and they had some "nubs" or whatever on there that you could screw in to replace missing or damaged ones. Some others you could rivet in with a rivet gun. I didn't think to write down what they were called or who had them but they are out there. Maybe you could go to their website and find out?
