Allright I have searched extensively,
What is the correct depth to install a rear main seal on an 87 TC. Should it be flush with block or deeper?

Thanks in advance,

It should be flush, but if you have a groove in you crank from wear, then you can set it back a liitle so that the seal rides behind the groove. A little Back, not alot because it will be a bear to remove.

Yep, book says it must be within 0.005" of the rear face of the block

Thanks Tony and Pete,

This brings on another question,is there a double lip seal that will fit the TC? Anyone around my town that sells parts doesn't show one, for the TC or 5.0 Mustang or anything. The few that thought they had one wasn't a double lip. This includes Napa,Autozone,Advance and a local.

Get the Fel-Pro teflon seal. You usually have to order it since its not carried in parts stores. Its like $25 or so. Its pretty stiff and can be difficult to get on. Just make sure to put it on DRY.

I was recently told there is an "offset" seal.

I don't know anything about a double lip seal for our engines.

Also, if you do have a groove in the crank then you can get a sleeve kit for it. The problem is that if you do that it is not recommended to use a teflon seal.

The Offset Seal I think is sold by Race Engineering or Racer Walsh. Look in the vendors section under their websites & search for Rear Main Seal.
