Rear bumper cover

'88 TC. Anybody know if the belt moulding on the rear bumper cover comes off? Got rear-ended Monday night and bumper cover "bulged out" on the side. didn't touch the moulding, and the moulding is mint as it was repainted and shines like black glass and I would like to reuse it if possible. Haven't taken the cover off yet so I don't know if it is removeable. Also... Found out that car has a value (according to Geico Ins.) of approx. $1300.00. Nice. They were close to totalling it for a bumper cover and bent tailpipe. I told the adjuster NO WAY he's totalling it as I have more like $7500 into it and $1300 aint gonna cut it. In the last week, new tires, starter and pa performance alt. In the last year, don't even ask. If the damage is 75% of the value, it's totalled. Adj. was good, kept it under the 75%, and gave me a check for $797 to repair or replace bumber cover and straighten exhaust pipe and replace chrome tip. Gotta love New York.

Progressive quoted me $1,800 value for my car. The bumper repair if you look in my recent thread "Got rear ended" is $678 I think? That includes a new bumper, bumper cover, bumper shocks and repaint the bumper. Sounds like you're getting jipped!

My car wasn't bad at all. Just needs the cover and paint. I can probably find a cover on ebay or whatever pretty cheap. I don't think I got jipped as I got $797 for pretty much just the cover and a tailpipe. I don't think it will even cost that much. My neighbor has a body shop and after a quick look said about $400-$500 for the cover with paint and all. The tailpipe can be bent back in shape, and I was gonna do polished stainless tips anyway, so I think I'm ok.
