Is there anyway to check the bearings in the rear axle without taking out the axles? The reason im asking is because I have a noise coming from the rear of the car, with new shocks and good tires, all that is left is the bearings and rearend. Huey

You could put it on a chassis lift, raise it a little then run it in gear and listen

That always works for me. Be sure car in on jack stands, not just a jack. The bad axle bearings seem to sing even louder with the bearings mostly unloaded with the rear hanging up in the air. I have found that you need to run thru a range of speeds to listen for different noises.
