re-covering sunvisors

I'm putting the interior back in the car. The headliner came out very nice but now I need to recover the sunvisors. Anyone here ever do it or know how thats done?.
It looks you should be able to separate the halves of the visor and "unfold" it and just tuck the edges inside the halves and push it back together.
If that's the case what kind of glue to use to stick the halves back together?

Did search but found no clues on this at all.

The halves pretty much have to be hack-sawed apart. I had one done - I sawed it apart after removing the electrics and parts for the lighted mirror, and had a visor cover made from headliner material that was sewn except on the big end. Then I slid the cover over the visor, and clamped the end section over the unsewn visor cover end. Not perfect, due to the difficulty in trying to get it to work with the clip that holds the visor up - I opted for a button-hole like opening for the clip instead of trying to do it the extremely difficult way of having the whole thing glued and clamped. It does look a LOT better, though.

I asked the lady that sewed mine if she wanted to do more for others on the side, and she didn't express any interest in that direction.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Mike.
I was afraid there was not an easy answer. So I take you didn't glue the halves together then? You just let the fabric and the mirror hold it together?
I've got one apart but I'd like to know what kind of glue to use to clue it back together. That and I need some kind of brushable glue to glue the edges of the headliner material to the insides of the visor.
If anyone has any good ideas on those kinds of glue I'd like to know.

So is that how they were made originally? They were glued together?
I'm in the same situation, I haven't had the guts to "pull" them apart because I am afraid of breaking something beyond repair. I was going to take mine to an upholstery shop to see if they could make them like new again.

yes they're glued. I very carefully pried them apart and cut the glued spots with a razor-blade...(after taking out the mirror of course). I'm just not sure how easy its going to be to get the material glued on and then glue the plastic, and then clamp it all together and not have a mis-step along the way.

I glued the halves right before sliding the new cover on, and then glued the last bit. I had a couple of C clamps and some vice grips holding it all together to dry for a day. I think I used JB Weld, but it may have been cyanoacrylic or something like that - it was over a year ago, and my memory is kind of fuzzy about it.

Ok, this makes me feel better about "forcing" them apart. I was afraid there may be some sort of one-way fastener holding them together that might be too brittle and without the correct tool I would damage them beyond repair.
Thanks for the tips, I will try tackling this job myself.

Pete,

I'll work on it, but I'm not too confident in my re-upholstering skills and since this will be my first attempt at it...don't hold your breath. ;-)

The mirror/light assembly (including the backing) has to be removed before the visor is cut open - that is the only real potential game killer. I forget how I got the parts off, though, so it must not have been too difficult.
