Rattle

So after getting all of the prc actuators functioning properly, I now notice a specific rattle in my front end.

When in the firm setting, I can distinctly hear a rattle from my front passenger side strut area. This is when there is slight roughage to road. When I switch back to auto(soft) it will disappear unless there is a more rough road situation.

Any ideas?

thanks

Not an expert on these units, buut....given that the stiffness of the dampening affects it, I would personally look into the strut mount itself. If not that...Chassis flex? Any senior members know? I'm curious.

I would take a look at the sway bar links. With the vehicle on firm the sway bar is going to come into play more on bumps then it would in the auto setting. Often the rubber parts of the links become worn out and it leads to a squeak or a rattle sometimes even clunking.

It is nearly impossible to diagnose squeaks, rattles, clunks, etc over the internet. Sway bar body mounts and end links, ball joints, upper strut mounts, loose lug nuts, loose wheel bearings, the list goes on.... Even loose / worn door hinge pins can cause occasional rattles under some conditions.

You pretty much have to try to isolate the exact area the noise is coming from and then start checking for worn / damaged parts.

OK. So after searching around and fiddling with it in the garage, I have narrowed the culprit sound down to a more finite area. Using a homemade stethoscope for sound troubleshooting, I have closed in on the area on the top of the strut itself.
With the suspension in soft (auto), rocking up and down from the passenger fender, the sound is almost a metal on metal sounding rubbing and appears to be around the top of the strut itself.
Is there a bushing in there somewhere? And does that sound like a potential problematic area? If so, does anyone have any pics/diagrams to show what the problem may be and any recommendations on ease of repair?

Thanks,

Sounds like you need a new upper strut mount. Not too bad of a job. You need to remove the strut.
