Hey guys this is my first post on here scence i joined a while back but i have a 87 Turbocoupe with 87,000 miles. The car runs good but started to miss or die at around 5000 rpms while running 15 psi. If it does not die and you let it idle it idles very rough for 20 to 30 seconds. It getting worse all the time now it does it while running 8 psi. Any ways back to the subject i have been told by many different sources that it is weak valve springs. So after christmas I'm going to replace the springs lifters and install a roller cam. I have a ranger roller waiting to be installed but i have heared that they dont like much over 5000 rpms. I will be ording my parts from boport and was wondering if it would be best to go ahead and buy a cam. (and if so with one) Keep in mind i drive the car pretty often.

The RR does die off rapidly above 4500rpm. It is a truck cam, low end power is good. If a Boport cam is in your budjet, it will be a very good move.

Im not sure about the RR but I have a Boport 1.5 cam and it is indeed a kick in the pants! Maybe its just my setup, but the power is like a lightswitch. His next biggest cam is a 1.9 and its power is made up high in the RPMs. His 2.x series require machining to the head. The 1.5 is a popular and very streetable cam, IMO.

So what's the RPM range of the 1.5 and how about the 1.9?
Also, you have a guess as to what the duration is @ .050" of both cams?

Unless you buy one yourself and measure it, you'll never know what the duration is. You won't even get a cam card for it from Bo when you do buy it.

The 1.5 is 3000-6000+ and the 1.9 is 4000-7000.
When using the 1.5 is there any power loss befor 3000 rpm? How does it affect mpg?

My 1.5 has a little lag before 3000rpm. I have not adjusted my cam gear yet to make it come on sooner. It pulls like a crazed pitbull from 3100-6500. It pulls so hard and fast I sometimes am afraid the cranked will snap in half.

With the 1.5, I got about 26-27mpg highway with about 50 miles city mixed in..and get about 16-17mpg city...and I am not a lightfoot. Also, I went from .028 to .023 plug gap and am seeing about 30 extra miles to the tank, but I havent filled up yet so cant calculate mpg.

Still breaks the rears loose on the 1-2 shift. Big Grin
