My daughters car has a ranger cam and a round tooth setup. The car has a full 3" exhaust and big valve head. My problem is that the car has no real boost until around 3100 rpm. My kid bros car whuch has square tooth and a ranger cam pulls as early as 1900rpm. What do you guys think is the issue? Should I advance the cam gear so I get more bottom end. Is it possible that with the round tooth gear setup that the tooth may be off by one?

Is the ranger cam retarted? 4-6 degrees if memory serves

What turbos are on each engine? There are a lot of variables including cam timing. The other big one is turbo sizing.

The turbo is a grand national hybrid .63 stage 1 turbo. I've had this on my other cars and it spooled up pretty fast with a ranger cam, but they all had square tooth.

So If I want boost to kick in sooner-say at 1800-2100, I need to advance the gear or retard it a few degrees?

the square tooth vs round tooth should not make a difference if everything is the same size.

The Range is a low end truck cam. Advancing the cam would bring it down even more. If it has weak low end, I'd recheck the cam timing and ignition timing, maybe excess play in the distributor or check the gears.
Retard the ranger roller to raise the power band in the rpm range. Many cams run best straight up.

UPDATE: Two things I did was a quick fix. 1) I advanced the cam gear 2 degress and she now pulls sooner at 2500rpm. I like that, and she now feels like she is breathing. I may be one tooth off, but for now, I'm going to run it like that.

2)I had the gillis on backwards, so I never had consistent boost. It would overboost, and I had to peddle it. Now that i have that corrected with the boost kicking in where I want it, I can keep the hammer down. Feels good
