The crank shaft end of the input shaft is slightly different on the V8 T5 vs the 2.3T T5s. You can get a bushing that allows the installation to a V8 T5 in a TC. There is also a very slight difference in input shaft lenght but I have never heard of that being a problem.

Use the TC bell, clutch and flywheel, and attach the Mustang T5 to that using the bushing that Pete mentioned.

Also, the speedo gear drive is different. It wont hamper driving, but the speedo will be off a bit.

>ok.that makes sense. now, my buddy has a wrecked turbo coupe(rolled 3 times)with a good t5 trans. this TC trans is built a bit, with nice new synchros and all that good stuff.(which is why im not trading him.... [Image: frown.gif] is he gonna have an issue putting that trans in his 5.slow thunderbird(87)? will he need a different clutch kit or bellhousing? does he need that bushing? will he need a regular 5.0 flywheel, or will the TC one bolt up?

as for the speedo cable, he has digital guages from my sport bird, will they work at all?

Your bud will have to use his 5.0 bell, flywheel and clutch. As to the pilot bushing/bearing it'd be something you're probably going to have to come up with on your own.
Personally, I think he'd be better off with a 5.0 T-5 for the gearing and input shaft.

The star warz gauges use a vss instead of a cable. I don't know which is in your bud's car, and I don't know about swapping them.

Cheapbird is right. When I was getting ready to do the T5 swap in my 87 I had access to a couple of wrecked 5.0's for little $$$. Seems to me that I would have needed to pull the input shaft and have it shortened and turned down in diameter to use a T5 from a 5.0. Then there was the issue of the higher gearing and loss of hole shot. Do a search on the subject and I think you'll find it to be too big a PITA to fool with.

You will have to put the hydraulic bellhousing and slave cylinder on the 5.0 T5 as well. Or you'll have to change over to a cable type clutch quadrant (i.e. change the pedal assembly). You'll also have to put your VSS in (the Stang tranny will have a drive cable and probably a 6 tooth worm gear) and play with the gearing to get the speedo to read close to right.

It's a shame you can't do a swap with your buddy that has the TC 5 speed. He will probably have to use an oversize / extended pilot bushing, change his bellhousing, etc. Since he has what you need and you have what he needs, if it were me, I'd go back to the negotiating table and maybe offer him a few bucks along with the trade to save both of you some hassle. Just my $0.02.

so, to put a TC T5 in a 5.0 liter car, you would need a new bell, clutch kit, and flywheel. then you would need to change over to the cable style clutch pedal assembly, amd find an adapter bushing, right?? holy krap this is turning into a f***ing nightmare...any one in central florida have a 5.0 trans with pedal assembly and all to put im my automatic 5.0 [Image: smile.gif]
