Putting the T-Bird back in the Line-Up

Well....here's my soon-to-be-tested theory. Here's the plan. I have accepted a full time position in the Air Force Reserve, M-F. This is in San Antonio, TX. I live in Pflugerville, TX (outskirts of Austin, TX). To and from work, door to door is 117 miles, one way. Round trip = 234mi. This is the crazy math part.... 5 day's a week x 4 weeks. I will be driving est. 1170mi a week, 4680mi a month... with Grand Total of 56,160mi a year!

I am currently rebuilding my engine. The mileage is hwy miles, so in theory, if I drive modestly, my T-Bird will become a gladiator and last!!! What do you think?

I have always thought the tbird was a great highway car. I rebuilt mine and it is currently my daily driver. I'm only putting about 65 miles on it a day though haha. Engines are meant to spin, so spin 'em! :beer:

My thoughts exactly! I can't wait to get the engine back and turbo upgraded. We have a toll road in Texas that connects Pflugerville to San Antonio. Speed limit is 80-85 mph.

The TC is one of the best highway cars ever built, IMO. Extremely comfortable seats, nice ride, good power and good fuel economy all in one package.

Just get yourself a nice cell phone mount and more importantly a "CUP HOLDER"! Oh maybe a new XM stereo too... my future upgrade.

Unfortunately the highway is where my Bird has got me into many confrontations with the law so I had to put her on time out for about 3 years in my garage.

I can attest to the fuel economy. Drove to Foxtober Fest (going from South Atlanta to Kannapolis, NC) and averaged over 30mpg. Been daily-ing mine lately to school before it gets too cold. Great cars!

My first T-Bird 1988 (THOR-original owner) I have 367,000. I put him aside awaiting for engine mod......Ford Racing 392 Stroker crate motor...

I agree! Music, cruise control, cup holder (lol),......ah.. I'm visualizing it now......

I find myself having a hard time using Cruise control on my Bird especially when pushing more HP than stock.... runs soooo smooth at 80mph

Ron being in CT, I guess you don't need any AC components?

I'm still not confident enough to take mine on a road trip yet. The engine is less than a year old and runs like a top. The only thing really holding me back is my tune. Its good but not great and far from perfect lol.

I second the cup holder!! Don't trust cruise control. Too easy to spin out with the old system like our birds have, or so they say.
