How many years do you have in the military already? I never intended to stay 20 yrs, but after 10 I realized getting out then would be like starting a new career, so I stayed. I stayed the first time because the economy was so bad in '76 that jobs were hard to find.

I have only been in to and with the pay off it would make it a total of maby 6. Oh and the wife just ruled that the Bird would fly away. would it be worth it? What branch were you ROD?

Don't do it, not worth it. I like the service but congress keeps taking away more of our benefits every year and we slip further down the poverty level. Not to mention how much more you can make in the Civvy market right now and the economy and jobs are good.

Other side of things...considering the incentives the military is offering for people to stay in there right now it may be worth it for the next 6 years.
Start your career there that you can apply to civvy life and carry it on after that, use the military for it's expert training in all different fields. 2 cousins of mine have mucho cash paying jobs because they used the military for everything it's worth. There are oppurtunities there.

I would not suggest staying in, especially if you are AF. I am 3 days away from my last work day in the AF. with the way we are getting screwed by CJR's (career job reservations, allows you to stay in your job when you reenlist) and the lack of reenlistment bonusesreally suck. Plus the fact that officers just keep getting better living conditions and pay while we enlisted guys keep slipping farther down the food chain makes it even worse. I will probably stay in the reserves, but active duty is going downhill so fast it isn't even funny.
BTW-sorry to hear your bird is going away, mine is also going away.....
Currently birdless, but will get another someday!

I didn't know what to expect when I read the name of the topic.
Hopefully you can change her mind about the T-bird
My perspective is as follows:
Buying a car is not a good reason for re-enlistment. It may motivate you when things go FUBAR, but one should serve their country for a better reason than that. Besides, you know 24 hours into basic whether or not you're a lifer. ("I need two smart people." "OK, You two are road guards")(Or in the immortal words of another crew chief; "Last time I volunteered, I spent 6 weeks as a road guard") If you decide to get out, I would not blame you either. It's AVF and you served. Thanks.
I own a '05 Mustang GT and an '88 Turbocoupe. I love both cars...I got back into the Turbocoupe after I bought my mustang. I learned the new stang was a special machine and realized I didn't want to drive it everywhere/everyday. There is a nice synergy running both cars and both are fun cars. But you can drive the TC every day...

Wow! To life or not to life based on a car payment. Keep the TC, they aren't making them anymore. When I was in I had a 64 mustang, burgandy with white interior convertable, got out in 69 with not a scratch from VM. Made two mistakes: sold the mustang for a VW and got married. Hence the reason for selling the mustang. Getting out was a no brainer: after three years in and going up in rank to o-2, with jump pay, combat pay, housing pay and all the other pays, I made a whooping $700 before taxes. Should have stayed in the reserves, retirement from the reserves counts the same as active duty without all the fun. This time I divorced the lady and kept the car. 83 TC with a low vin, should have it running again and it will be a daily driver. Love that car on the open road! Happy ending; my ex married another vet from the 82ND that drives an 87 TC. Is there a pattern here?
83 dead bird, in pieces however I'm reading from the book of the dead, should be running soon.
