started out with a 85.5(had brown top injectors) auto tc in may found a 89 2.3 manual mustang for a donor t5 and i picked up a 88 auto tc
i want to swap the hood off the 88 to the 85 along with the front bumper headlights and rear bumper, intercooler and vam i have a la3 for after the manual is in.
i plan on replacing everything i take off the 88 with parts i take off the 85, it will be a first car for one of my nephews

is there any difference in mounting holes for the hood and bumpers?
what else should i look to steel off the 88?
can i just pull the whole rear end out of it to get the brakes or would it be simpler to just swap brakes?

the only lines that look like they don't match up are the rear courters and bumper/lights. the front looks identical at least the lines and mounting points do at a glance..

No... the body lines don't all match up in the front. The earlier bird has an extra line in the sheet metal, just above the side molding the is not there on the later bird.

What it wrong the the 88? Seems like it would be a whole lot simpler to just to the manual swap in the 88 rather than trying to make the '85 into an '88.

+1

Also, the 88 has disc brakes in the rear and with an AT, the T-Loc is a 3.73 ratio. I would definitely vote for building the 88.

if i went off the 88 id have to do the t5 swap on it rebuild the ald4 and swap it into the 85 this way the 88 keeps its auto and the stupid 3 speed goes away with one less swap. also my 85 i have worked the bugs out of and replaced everything that was about to wear out. and the 88 has a hit in the driver door and the passenger tail lamp cover is missing replaced with red duct tape

i swapped in the intercooler today need a longer hose section for the turbo outlet intercooler sits lower on it yet not low enough to bolt to the bracket and not high enough to seal to the hood. i'm guessing that the intakes on the 88 is shorter than the 85 aswell as the valve cover. so i'm going to have to get the hood on tomorrow and weld an extension to the bracket and get a chunk of hose from one of the big rig shops.

i'm going to leave the nose on the 88 theres some damage done to it just going to steal the fog lamps and a couple interior pieces(radio/heater bezel, armrest cover and the door panels because the previous owner of mine hacked them for speakers...)

after i get the trans swap done ill work on the 88's bugs i have a year to get it fixed up and reliable need to replace ignition switch or get more brake fluid not sure which yet, and ill have to find a new tail light cover.
