Progress on Alt. swap

I'm finally getting around to finishing my 130A 3G alternator swap. It's now warm enough to work comfortably in the garage and I have some time.

I started this when I had time off in January and it was cold. The garage heater I have wasn't large enough to heat my work area and I ended up splitting a socket and breaking the lower alternator bolt ear off the bracket.

Yesterday I got my bracket off my spare engine and today I've pulled the PS pump pully and pump off. The next step is grinding the bracket down for the alternator. It is so much easier to do the grinding on a vice than with it on the car!

Hopefully today I'll have it all ground down and have started on removing the old bracket. I have a new PS pump that's going on with the new bracket as well. If all goes well I can start the car this weekend and maybe take it for a spin. I haven't started it since early January.

Harbor Freight has a pulley puller on sale for about $9. It works GREAT. I'll post the pics I have from this when I find my digi-cam software cd and get a new battery for it.

Can someone please inform me on this 3G setup. I use a GM alternator in all my fords. never saw a 3G whats the scoop Tom. Thanks Much

As you know the stock alt barely adequate The 3G puts out more amps and is easily adaptable to TCs.
They come in 95, 130 and another rating, I think.

i did the swap myself great bank for the buck considering i have 2 6head strobe power supplys , hid headlights and high power sound system , she puts out 14.2 volts

Ok i got it pete its the HD ford diesel and 5.0 HD alt. I have one in the shop for my pickup i will see if its the one in the post. I use them in the f250 pickups as an update. I am going to check tomorrow thanks pete

Herbie tom junior just set me up with a HID setup from an audi. He is putting some last minute changes in the design. He uses the stock light assemblies so far they look great TOM.

I'd be interested in how to do an hid setup and it's difficulty with a shade tree mechanic such as myself. I'd love to hear about what is involved.

Hi mat tom junior is a body man and he fabs things up with magic body man GOO. I dont have the patience to do that either. But i dont think its to difficult just time consuming . I bet you could come up with something. Tom gets the parts from wrecks that he repairs so the cost of the electronics is free. The lamps and hid units are expensive. Try a local body shop they may hook you up with a couple of units from an old wreck for a fiew bucks. Tom Senior

The alternator I'm using is one I picked up from the bargain bin from PA Performance.

I think I have the bracket ground down enough now for the alternator. I'll probably work it a bit more to make sure. I also have my old bracket off the car (was fun getting it out but I got it).

Hopefully by the weekend I'll have everything back together. It is going slowly but it is going well. I'm getting more done than I thought I would during my lil one's naps.

HIDs scare me a bit. I don't want to blind oncoming drivers. I cleaned my headlights with the headlight compound and sprayed the insides with hobby mirror paint. They work better than anything I've ever had on a TC.

I got the new bracket installed, alternator mounted and PS pump swapped. I messed up the threads on my pulley puller though. I'll stop by Harbor Freight and pick up another one and I'll be back in business. Hopefully I'll be driving the car this weekend.
