Any time I've experienced what you are describing it was traced to the volume or fader controls. If you turn those knobs around aggressively the sound would come back. I would spray contact cleaner in them (have to remove and disassemble both radio and EQ) and it would be fine for awhile.

Well, if you end up needing a factory amp, just let us know. We've got an extra one around we could send to you. Either way, good luck.

I think you should upgrade unless u wana stay stock. Alot of new radio's have eq's and sound features in them.

New speakers will also help alot.

I have a flipout tv with all new speakers.

I have the 6 speaker setup with a custom built sub box in the upper deck of the trunk were the spare and jack would be.

You've got nothing to lose to take the EQ out, take it apart and soak the fader control (I assume that is what you meant, balance is on the radio, fade is on the EQ)with contact cleaner. I've had success with that in the past. If it doesn't work, well you've got the EQ out of the way to do whatever you want to do. : )

Ford premium sound sound in the 80s was horrible. Even a cheap head unit would run circles around it. Later Ford sound systems improved alot... the Mach audio system in my 05 Taurus Duratec SEL DD is really great..... the only car I ever bought that I didnt replace the stereo within a week of buying it.

If you really want a "prem sound" amp, I think I may have a few laying around in one of my junk piles.
