I have an aftermarket pump, ARG? I can't recall the manufacturer as it's been about 3 or 4 years since I did it. But the pump is really noisy when cold. I've bled it a few times and it always whines really loud unless the steering is moved for the first 15 minutes of running and then it quiets down. This thing was expensive. Is it going bad?

If its whining when cold thats a good sign of the pump going bad Sad

Have you checked the fluid level for the steering pump

Definitely check the level! PS fluid has a high rate of expansion, and if a little low when warm, can be low enoug when cold to allow air to get into he system and cause a whine.

Shiny Side Up!

Wait, where does this go?

Matt,

Mine has whined (whound??? lol) when cold since I bought it over 10 years ago... Not saying this is normal, but I will say that EVERY 80's ford vehicle I have/do own (84 LTD, 87 Stang, 87 TC, 89 f-150) has had at a least a slight whine to the power steering...
