Hello all. I used to own a 88 5-spd TC. It was a lemon but that was my fault. I was considering getting another TC to play with but I'm also looking at the newer super coupe t-birds. Both the TC and the SC have advantages and disadvantages.
To me the biggest disadvantage is the age of the TCs. I will be restoring whatever car I have interior and exterior. I have yet to find anything but carpet and headliners for the TCs. Is there a line on seats or interior panels?
I'm drawn to the TCs since they have the same chassis and rearend the 87 mustang I used to race. So I already know how to spruce that up. But performance is the main issue. Looking and pricing the mods from the TC to SC shows that the SC is faster stock but to get both cars into the 13s runs about the same. I'm not looking to run 12s or anything so getting at TC into the 13s would be the goal (enough to beat up the Acuras and Hondas on the road).
Money isn't an object so you might be wondering why I would be after a car like this when I could buy about anything I wanted (within reason). Answer is: I graduated high school back in the late 1980s and I wanted one of these cars really bad. I liked the one I owned but didn't know about some of the interior power fixes (power regs) and thought the car was dead. I also made a critical mistake by testing it on a rainy day and the rust on the body was hidden.
In any event, what kind of aftermarket is there for the interior on these cars? The SC is new enough that I wouldn't have to worry about it. But my wife like the looks of the TC over the SC.
I'll dig around and see where my timeslip went from the first one - it had just a K&N cone air filter.
