Possible EEC problem

My '88 driver has been acting up lately, dying on the road, hard to start, etc. This morning would not start at all. When key is turned on, both radiator fans come on and stay on and the fuel pump comes on and stays on. When I crank the engine over it fires for just a second and then nothing and the CEL stays on while cranking. That's all bad right? Tried to pull codes but won't read anything. Any suggestions as to what this sounds like or where to start troubleshooting? Am I right thinking computer?

Ok this sounds like an ecm problem. The LA3 does a fan test and runs the fuel pump for a second or two to prime the injectors. All modern efi cars do a similar priming event. You are right the fans and pump should stop if the engine is not running. I would check spark timing belt and injector pulse with a noid light to confirm these systems ok. Clearly one is missing. As a guess i would say ECM dut you should do more testing to confirm. I would test the fuse links and the battery and ground Ckts to the ECM. Good Luck Tom. Dont feel alone i have a triton V8 in the shop with 3 misfire codes and a lean bank 2. Never saw this before its going to be interesting.
