Pimp it or Horse it???

I am a cheap sob which makes me like Quarterhorse over the Pimp, but the Pimp's ease of installation/tuning give almost make it a tie in my pea brain.

I know some of you are running Pimps, but I don't know if anyone on this board is running QH or not. I need opinions on the plusses and minuses, from those who know.

OR - I could just forget about the whole deal and go get tattooed...

PIMP ITTTTT...think about how cool you'll be saying your car has been pimped.

Its a very very easy install man..plus the tech support responses has been quick and detailed from stinger. Tuner studio is a breeze to use. I had my junk running/driving in a few hours after a install. If you got the extra money you'll never regret it for the simplicity. However it does alot for the money. I am cheap SOB as well but I got my pimp used so I saved a few hundred. Looking at it now I still would have bought it brand new. Again the support for this product is awesome and its not like they are using proprietary tuning software. Alot of guys are running TS with no issues on lots of other cars.

If I could find one used I'd be all over it, but, alas, I do not have that kind of luck. The QH comes in quite a bit cheaper - at least initially, but I'm not sure what all needs to be purchased additionally to make it do what I want.

I run a Quarterhorse on mine with a MAF conversion. You'll at least need Binary Editor (or some other equivalent tuning software) to be able to tune it, Engine Analyzer is often also recommended but definitely not required. The LA3 strategy file is available for free.

I have no experience with the PiMP kit, but it sounds like a really nice setup from everything I've read.

I have the quarterhorse and used SVOJohns base LA3 strategy file and mapping file with the revision for using speed denisty with the intake MAP sensor. I've been busy with work and working on a house and between girlfriend and having fun my car has really been on the back burner for a long while. I have a base tune and have tuned it a handfull of times. For tuning your really just putting a multiplication factor from the existing settings to adjust the AFR you want based on RPM and the MAP reading (boost).
You can get the files from the yahoo 23tweecer board i think it's called? And you can download the Binary Editor and Engine Analyzer for free and get used to the software and files prior to purchasing however you will not have serial communication to the EEC until you purchase I believe $100 license. I have the files on an old laptop and also don't have the latest rev of files so you would be better off downloading them. You tune by using an excel sheet SVOJohn created and put the old values and it calculates the new values to put in the mapping. This is done because you enter the desired AFR into the excell sheet and you enter in a multiply factor mapping from 0 - 1 to adjust the tuning. There is a long post on turboford about it if you search.

As far as hardware.
Moates quarterhorse
laptop running binary editor and engine analizer
convert the VAM and VAT sensors to MAP and IAT (gm parts from diyautotune.com) Sensor and pigtail connector.

As an added step from normal I didn't have a innovative WB O2 sensor (which will read into the binary editor software directly, so I wired the now unused ACT (since you have a IAT) and made the ACT input the WB O2 sensor input by wiring the controlers 0 - 5 volts to the EEC ACT sensor input. 0v = 10 AFR and 5v = 20 AFR.

I was also being cheap, and pimp was very new at the time. I would mess with the software for free and see what fits you vs money.

Just search the forums and craigslist. I got mine on Craigslist in NY last year. If I drive my pig up to Carlise ill show you the different stuff you can do with it.

What do you mean "if"???

I don't know - I've been corresponding with someone about QH and it's sounding pretty good to me. All I want to do is convert to SD, put in bigger injectors, and have the option to convert to DIS in the future. All that other stuff is just fluff for me. :dunno:
