Painting head

I just got my cyl head back from the machine shop after being resurfaced. Is it ok to paint it with some high temp engine paint to keep it protected from rust and such? And if so, should I mask off the gasket areas for the intake and exhaust, or is ok for those surfaces to be painted?
Thanks alot!

i would not paint the gasket surfaces. you want those as clean as possible when you start to assemble. i suggest you mask off the gasket surfaces, wipe down with MEK, alcohol or acetone prior to painting to remove any oil on the surface. lowes or home depot has acetone or alcohol available for very cheap.

Except for around the thermostate housing and above the exhaust manifold, there is very little of the head that is visible once everything is installed. I din't bother on mine. It's OK to paint it as VR22 described.
