Anyone know any good paint shops in the DC/Metro area? I may take it to Maaco but I'm looking for other options.

NO macco, they did a horrible job on my Turbo Coupe, the guy who had the car before me had it done, the paint is chipping, and it looks like they did absolutly no work on block sanding and prepping the car. they painted all the trim and everything on it,

There's a great place in Carlisle, PA but, it's not cheap!

I am close enough to Carlisle...who is it? Dan the Mandarin Copper Metallic was one of my "secret" colors I was going to have my car painted! I may have to rethink that now.... Do you have any pics? I always wondered what a bird would look like in that color.

Call a bunch of regular shops and ask them what they would charge for the quality of paint job you want. Most of the larger shops doing insurance won't deal with you but they all know someone who does custom work for a good price. That's how I found the guy who put my car back together.

Thanks for the responses. Another option is to do it myself. The father in law has a HVLP gun and has done a couple cars in the past. He said he could help but I should practice first. I do have a door and a hood I can work on. He also told me about a place in Rockville, Paintmasters, that his work sends a lot of company vehicles to. Its a rust free car with original paint that is fading badly.

Biggest drawback to practice....

Materials cost. I haven't swung a gun over anything serious (Krylon is my friend), but the sheer cost for materials dissuaded me from even considering it...

Someday I'll get around to painting mine...

My paint was $114.00 a quart! There's no practicing at those prices!
