I have an 88 ranger with an 85 turbo coupe motor and it hauls *ss....at half throttle, when I floor it, it boost to between 16 and 20 pounds of boost and boggs real bad. Does anyone know what might cause this? Would it be the waistgate? I know when I keep it at between 10 and 13 pounds it screams,I can only imagine what it would do if I could gun it. 3.73 gear, 2600lb truck, and a five spd.

With no intercooler on that 85 engine, you are probably melting something at 20lbs of boost! Turn it down man! Or run race gas.

Therein lies a problem.....how are you controlling your boost? Did you retain the tbird's stock electronic boost control solenoid, or do you have some sort of aftermarket mechanical (or electronic) device? If anything, just try running a tube from your vaccuum tree down to the WGA to see what she does. Somebody correct me if i'm wrong (since i may just be thinking of the ihi's), but the WGA was designed to start opening at around 10psi of boost. If it still goes up to 20+psi, maybe you've clocked the compressor housing so that there's too much tension on the WGA's arm?

I found and fixed the problem with the over boosting, I looked for the vacume line to the wastegate and sure enough it was severely ripped and dry rotted so I ripped it off and on with the new and holy crap is it smoother and much faster and the boot guage is staying at 11psi when I gun it!!
