Optional Power Steering Upgrade

This optional power steering pump upgrade might not be for everyone, but i wanted to share what i have done. Most can easily and successfully replace with the AGR Ford replacement pump which is better than stock and bolts in, but not as good as this "TC"(TC does not mean Turbo Coupe) GM style AGR pump i used. For anyone that wants to have a upgraded pump for toughness this may be a good option. I have been using my car to drift and plan on using the steering system harder than normal. Also it doesnt make the "typical ford whine". I called AGR Performance www.agrperformance.com and got the "TC" racing pump. To use this pump you need to make bracket modifications and it needs a reservoir (stock turbo coupe, or aftermarket) unlike the other replacement Ford AGR pump including the reservoir. I made a mounting bracket and had to cut the original power steering/alternator bracket to remove extra bulk metal for fitment. You can use the existing metal line/connector from the stock pump so you can use the existing high presure line, and the existing return line will work as well. I also used a 6" pulley Dormain Part# 300-301 $20 from advance auto which has one too many grooves however it is the correct inner and outer diameter for the pump and stock serpentine belt.

The pump is $134 for steel and $170 for aluminum, and if you ask them to put the typical GM connector on instead of the AN10 fitting you can then unscrew the fitting and put on your existing Ford fitting from the stock pump. Also when ordering tell them your application and they can setup the correct flow and psi. FYI you most likely wouldn't have to remount the reservoir where I did, but i had previously removed the reservoir when i put the other Ford style AGR pump with attached reservoir on and i think i got rid of the mount. Hopefully this helps some of you guys looking for other options. Here are the pictures:

great set up!
i assume no pulley alignment issues?

since you in PA i would like to see this in person one day. i have had thought of modding a bracket to mount a GM pump. or one of the c3 pump from a newer ford!
this needs to be a TECH article!

Most I've ever done was switch the remote reservoir over to the on-the-pump-style reservoir (like the Mustangs, etc.). I enjoy the look and stream line without the reservoir.

No performance different, however. Good to hear about this upgrade!

Thanks, the alignment is good. i had to make a bracket/adapter plate with some spacers for alignment. I wanted to be able to use parts i could readily get a autoparts stores. I almost used a taurus pulley however the inner diameter was slightly off for the press fit. The pulley i used has an extra groove, but honestly its because i didnt want to keep searching around for a pulley and this one was inexpensive. I wanted to have a 6" diameter for pump speed limitations at high rpm and obviously the correct inner diameter and still use the stock serpentine. Im sure if someone really cared enough you could find another pulley with the correct 5 instead of 6 groove. In fact i think a mid 90's cadillac V8 would work from a junk yard saw it on a google search. BJL sounds good, i need to tune it some and register it but after that ill be driving it more so we could meet up. I live in west chester.

As far as the remote reservoir i changed to Ford style pump from AGR with the attached reservoir first but with the extra demand from drifting i wanted a remote reservoir and needed it for this pump.
