Ok I am replacing some of the wiring on my car because of some hack work and just old brittle wires. I am working on the ECT wiring now. I was pulling the tape off the sensor wires and noticed there is a resistor installed on one of the wires. Is this normal or is it some kind of way to bypass a bad ECT or something? The wires need to be replaced so I need to know if I am supposed to have this or not. Thanks
Shawn
Its an 83 tc with a LA3 swapped in if that matters at all?

Ok guys with the key on the diode or resistor or whatever it is drops the voltage from 4.56v to 4.49v is this what its supposed to do? It realy doesnt look factory the saldering is a really crappy job.
Please help me!

Definately not factory. Putting a resistor in te ECT circuit will cause the EEEC to read a lower temp than the ECT indicates. Maybe this was a half assed try from some prior owner to fix a problem. If the EEC reads a lower temp than actually present, it will richen the mixture, and delay the switch to closed loop.

I have a 10K resistor in series with the ACT on my 5.0 so the computer reads the air temp as lower than it really is to keep the EEC from pulling timing in real hot weather.

Sounds like TurboCoupe50 been working on it. Probably someone added a resistor to trick the computer. But if it is only making .07 volt difference it really isn't doing much. Does it have anything printed on it, or does it have color bands?

What I was thinking maybe they added it to help stop the detonation problem the car used to have. another thing that was weird was the diode also had an extra wire hooked to it, it was a cheapy speaker wire one side was hooked befor the diode and one was hooked afterward! It ran into the interior of the car but was cut off. Maybe they had a toggle switch or something to bypass the diode? There has been some very weird things done to this car.
Thanks
